The Delta at the south end of this valley, and included in this book was named one of the nation's 25 best fishing locations in 2003 by Field & Stream Magazine. Sacramento Valley Fishing Paradise includes:

  • Steelhead and wild trout in many rivers
  • Large Florida bass up to 18-plus pounds
  • Great spotted bass lake where an angler may catch tens of the fish a day
  • The largest freshwater sports caught fish in the U.S.
  • Excellent trout and kokanee fishing
  • Striped bass up to 50 pounds and larger
  • Large, abundant catfish
  • Hard-fighting American shad
  • Great historic and Gold Rush attractions

Fishing for each major fish in each body of water is rated on a scale of 1 to 10 in this book.  You can quickly find waters that are best for the species you plan to pursue.  One chapter directs you to the best fishing any time of year, and the "Best of the Best" chapter tells you the very best place to fish for each fish or for the largest or greatest number of each species.  It also guides you to great places to camp, where to pan gold, noteworthy historic attractions and accommodations that include hotels where Presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, and the famous outlaw Black Bart slept.  This liberally illustrated book is your detailed guide for all species of fish in this area.  t covers the Sacrament River and its tributaries and lakes from Lake Shasta south to the Delta and east to many foothill lakes.  You will learn when, where and how to catch each major game fish.
