Reviews:

"If your definition of Olympic Peninsula fishing opportunities is limited to Forks and steelhead, Sekiu and salmon, Hood Canal and shellfish-you are cheating yourself.

If nothing else, and there is a considerable else, Brinnon fish writer Doug Rose has once again pulled the curtain aside and provided us with a long and intriguing look at the versatility and angling options closeted on "the peninsula."

That Rose is in love with the Peninsula and its wonderfully complex stew of fishing opportunities is obvious in the intimate way that he delivers his word pictures and confides his fishing secrets-almost as if to whisper to a confidant. That he is by genetic alignment a writer pre-programmed to communicating, revealing and informing is our gain. I hazard to guess that if your neighbor knew the things that Rose knows about fishing the fringes of Hwy. 101, he would be much less inclined to enhance your edification.

It would be, if not a tragedy then at least a serious mis-step, for gear fishermen to ignore this book simply because Rose has structured it to appeal to fly fishers. The places he fishes, the seasons, the runs, the access and the subtleties hold valuable insights that any fisherman, regardless of genre, will benefit.

It is a stroke of amazing good luck, ours, that Rose is a Renaissance angler, a fisherman as happy to be skating spiders at sea-run cutthroat, as wrestling with Sol Duc summer-runs, hiking the Skyline Trail toward Low Divide and fishing every little high lake along the way, sloshing into beaver ponds, setting the car-topper on a lowland lake, charging out to Swiftsure to find the coho before they come home, lifting silvers from the estuaries of Hood Canal, arguing with Sekiu black rockfish, mucking about in the oyster country of the Skokomish and stalking native rainbows in creeks that slide through wild rhododendrons.

If nothing else, when you finish reading this wholly revised guide, you will have a new respect for the versatility that the Peninsula offers-much of it well off the publicized highways-and a self-deprecating criticism that you have not fished it enough" __Terry Sheely, The Reel News, April 2009
